Founder
Good foundations make everything else possible.¶
John Billings is the founder of StartMeUp.nz, a Wellington-based fiscal host and platform cooperative supporting early-stage, purpose-driven founders in Aotearoa.
His background spans two decades of Linux systems administration, DevOps, and platform engineering, including more than ten years at Catalyst IT, alongside community infrastructure work with Free Geek Michiana and AmeriCorps VISTA. A career spent preparing the conditions for other people's work gave him a clear view of a common failure mode: teams with good ideas that never became operational because no one helped them build the foundations.
StartMeUp.nz is his attempt to fix that. Part fiscal host, part cooperative, it provides the governance, infrastructure, and operational scaffolding that early teams need before they are ready to incorporate. OpsDev.nz is the first collective under that umbrella, building shared tools and processes in public.
John is available for contract platform and DevOps work, advisory roles, and conversations with founders who are trying to start on solid ground.
